Case

The carrier disappeared – but the customer never noticed

17 Aug, 2026

Maritza Arteaga, Project Manager, Chicago, US, Scan Global Logistics

When a shipment arrives on time, updates are clear, and problems are handled before they become disruptions, logistics feels simple.

That’s exactly the point.

For Maritza Arteaga, Project Manager, that simplicity is the result of constant attention behind the scenes.

‘The customer is always first,’ Maritza says. ‘I try to put myself in their shoes and communicate with them a lot, reassure them it’s taken care of.’

That mindset was recently put to the test when a carrier supporting shipments to Anchorage in the US unexpectedly went out of business.

Making complexity invisible

The shipment involved tobacco products, requiring strict compliance standards, specialised insurance coverage, and carefully timed deliveries.

That made finding a replacement carrier far from simple.

‘It took going down the list of carriers and assessing who could genuinely accommodate their needs,’ Maritza explains. ‘I talked to so many carriers just to find the one that would work.’

From the customer’s perspective? There was no disruption at all.

They didn’t realise the carrier went out of business. We focused on making sure they didn’t feel a bump in the road.

By working closely with operations and international teams, Maritza was able to quickly identify a trusted solution and maintain continuity for the customer.

‘If I don’t have the answer, someone else in the company can jump in with their expertise,’ she says. ‘That’s what helps us deliver for customers.’

Adapt, communicate, deliver peace of mind – every time

Not every shipment goes perfectly. But when challenges happen, communication and accountability matter just as much as execution.

‘We can’t always control every situation,’ Maritza says. ‘But we stay positive, assess what happened, learn from it, and focus on making sure the customer is taken care of.’

Whether it’s coordinating urgent operational support, high-value truckload shipments, or setting up tracking visibility, Maritza keeps one principle central: adapt whenever a customer’s needs change.

‘If they need more communication, we can do that. If they need tracking, reporting, specialised equipment, or a different solution operationally, we can make it happen.’

That flexibility is what creates real value for customers.

‘One customer tells us all the time that they appreciate how proactive we are,’ Maritza says. ‘They’re busy, and they know they don’t have to worry. They count on our service.’

Helping customers feel less stress, creating confidence in the process, and keeping complexity off their desk – that’s what it’s all about.

Because in the end, the best logistics solution is the one the customer never has to worry about.
