Celebration of a successful year being present in West Africa and investment for additional trucks

09 Aug, 2019

The biggest challenge for any transport provider is a complex infrastructure as in West Africa. Constantly changing conditions require new solutions and consequently a vast knowledge and deep understanding of routing, accessible borders and bridges to cross. An example could be in rainy seasons when roads are unstable and even likely to disappear.

“Our goal is for our customers not worry about anything other than booking the transport. In the region of West Africa, it is not just about driving from A to B because conditions are changing constantly but let us worry about that” says Henrik Vind Kragh, Global Head of Charter & Relief, Ocean.

To overcome the somewhat non-existing infrastructure or areas with immense transport challenges, a new investment in 5 Military grade MAN KAT 8x8 trucks has been made along with additional 15 Mercedes 4x4 trucks and container chassis.

These trucks can get the transport job done in hostile and difficult areas. Something which a normal truck could never do. This gives an even bigger reach into West Africa supporting the full supply chain from door to door.

Transport is not just driving from A to B

Investing in own offices and equipment gives advantages but will not automatically give success, because the routing for destinations are changing all the time.

“The key is to optimize our transport gear such as machinery and trucks, do a proper allocation of the resources and integrate knowledge about local conditions in the routing. It requires a constant monitoring of the infrastructure on a continuing basis, to know which routing and which truck will work for that specific destination today,” says Aw Abdoulatif, MD in West Africa

Why go into such a complicated market?

“Because we had the perfect match with our long-term partner Macca Logistics in West Africa. The combination of strong, global brand with local office and own equipment provides stability in an otherwise complicated market.

Our customers enjoy easy access to our transport solutions offering local knowledge and the ability to navigate in this market,” says Henrik Vind Kragh, Global Head of Charter & Relief, Ocean.

Through global brand, own offices and investment in own equipment, we have a unique positioning in an otherwise complicated West African region.
