Delivering 28 transformers for a landmark energy project in the UAE

To support a major energy infrastructure development in the Middle East, our customer needed to move 28 heavy transformers and 50,000 CBM of general and oversized cargo from four continents to the UAE. It was a logistics project defined by scale, urgency, and complexity, leaving no margin for error.

Scope of works

The transformers were shipped via multi-purpose vessels (MPVs) from Sweden and Brazil to Mina Zayed and Mugharraq ports. From there, they were transported to their final destinations either via direct road transport or a combined barge-road transportation via Mussafah port. Offloading onto the foundation and temporary storage area was also performed.

The additional general and oversized cargo was routed through Abu Dhabi/Khalifa port and delivered by road to the designated project locations.

Challenge accepted. Problem solved.

Deploying a never tried before solution

Complicated project transport over the Andes and into Bolivia

In March 2013, Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB had their first of many project transport of gas turbines going from Sweden to Bolivia. The inland transport included passing heights of 4600 meters with temperatures varying from below 15 degrees to plus 30. Roads are only 7.20 meters wide, and all opposing traffic had to be removed since the heavy trucks cannot, under any circumstances, stop during each phase going uphill.
