Streamlining Port Logistics:

A Seamless Transition for Major Cruise Line Operation

In 2024, we undertook a significant project to become the port logistics provider for a major customer in the cruise industry at the Port of Galveston. This project involved a comprehensive overhaul of the existing logistics operations to enhance service delivery for one of the industry's most prominent players.

Challenge

The primary challenge was ensuring a smooth transition from the previous logistics provider to our services and avoiding operational disruptions. Without impacting ongoing operations, we needed to set up a new logistics infrastructure capable of handling complex requirements, including warehousing, order collection, and time-sensitive nationwide shipments.

Solution

We established a consolidation point at our SGL Houston warehouse, a strategic location where goods are collected, sorted, and then shipped to the Port of Galveston. Optimization of logistics operations for the customer includes warehousing, order collection within the Gulf areas, consolidation from various vendors, LTL shipments nationwide, and direct deliveries from IAH airport to the Port of Galveston. This setup efficiently supports the needs of three vessels and prepares us for a fourth vessel during the winter season.

Results

To date, we have successfully managed 2,086 pieces, totaling 791,961 lbs, with operations running smoothly and without any constraints. Our synchronized teams in Miami and Houston have met all customer demands, and we are optimistic about expanding our services to other brands and major cruise lines.
