The ambitious global logistics provider, Scan Global Logistics (SGL), ramps up its European organization and network by acquiring two companies in the region. Acquiring Gelders Forwarding (Gelders), an air and ocean forwarder, will significantly scale SGL's airfreight services and enhance its presence in the technology sector. Meanwhile, Advection Logistics (Advection), a full-service logistics provider, becomes the first SGL office in Hungary and provides a platform for growth in the region.

It's less than a week since SGL acquired Sea-Air Logistics Ltd., increasing its presence in China and Hongkong before putting pen to paper and expanding its European footprint. The signings follow SGL's ambitious growth and acquisition plan, which so far counts eight acquisitions, including one minority investment in 2022.

Allan Melgaard, Group CEO, comments on why matching company DNAs are pivotal to any SGL acquisition: "Ensuring a strong cultural fit is central to our acquisition strategy allowing for effectivity, commercial synergies, and an easy integration to unfold."

Izabella Szőcs, Managing Director, Advection, and François Verhaart, Managing Director, Gelders, agree and expand on the significance of a similar mindset as they join the SGL family: "Our companies' cultural DNAs, customer-centric and entrepreneurial approach match SGL perfectly. Becoming one allows us to substantially benefit from our combined expertise and capabilities to offer improved and extended services to our customers. We look forward to developing our future business together".

Taking airfreight services higher
Gelders' strong footprint in the semiconductor logistics segment supports SGL's strategic focus on airfreight and will further cement its strong position as a global logistics provider. The ambitious freight forwarder will increase its market share significantly, and the combined organization will have more than 70 dedicated employees.

Already the preferred logistics provider to several well-known, global technology brands, SGL's customer base will expand with the inclusion of Gelders' list of customers, many within the same sector. The alliance will ensure customers access to a vast global network of industry know-how and in-depth expertise from SGL professionals dedicated to providing best-in-class services.

Gelders will also add live animal transportation to the versatile SGL portfolio.

Gateway to the region
Planting its flag in Hungary follows SGL's global expansion strategy. Being locally present allows SGL to grow closer ties with its existing customers operating from and within Hungary, offering improved services and uncomplicated supply chains. Furthermore, Advection's well-established capabilities, competencies and network provide an excellent opportunity to develop further in the region.

"With Advection, we share a highly commercial approach and one of deep industry knowledge. Therefore, we are delighted to add its strong competencies within pharma healthcare, automotive logistics and the technology sector to ensure our customers an even better range of services and improved support for their businesses," says Lars Syberg, RCEO of EMEA.

Hungary is also a key location for SGL's extensive aid & relief efforts and will play a significant role in its future European-based humanitarian logistics operations.

"With these two acquisitions, we take another step toward strengthening our European organization and foothold. We will continue to invest in our European infrastructure, employees, and systems to support our global customers and provide uncomplicated logistics wherever they operate," finishes Lars Syberg.
