Lending a hand to save operations

In emergency situations where equipment failures can compromise a customer's operations, we meet the urgency with flexible solutions, including hand-delivering time-sensitive, critical shipments.

Challenge

When a seafood company experienced an equipment failure, they quickly realized they urgently needed a new hydraulic part to operate a fishing trawl door. When the customer ordered the part from Salt Lake City, UT, for delivery into Anchorage, AK, the odds of overnight delivery to its final destination in Dutch Harbor, AK, seemed slim to none. With typical cargo flights from Anchorage to Dutch Harbor, they load cargo on a first-come, first-served basis and load it in priority order of mail, food, and medical supplies. The customer feared this shipment might not even make the cut on such short notice. The unpredictable icy and windy weather in Dutch Harbor also added to the challenge of delivering this part to fix their fishing trawler.

Solution

Our team acted swiftly and thoughtfully to design a plan to ensure the delivery of this hydraulic part and successfully delivered the part from Salt Lake City to Anchorage overnight using a reliable carrier. Taking extra precautions to ensure its safe arrival, we contracted a person to hand carry the part from Anchorage to Dutch Harbor and sent them on an early morning flight to Dutch Harbor.

Results

Once landed, a contracted ice road trucker company’s dispatcher was sent to Dutch Harbor for the day. That dispatcher ensured the customer's receipt of the cargo and successfully completed the challenge of sending a critical hydraulic part from Salt Lake City, UT, to Dutch Harbor, AK, in less than 24 hours.
