Copenhagen, 14 May 2024 Scan Global Logistics (SGL), a leading global provider of transport and logistics solutions, and Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world's largest container shipping lines, proudly announce a significant partnership with a multimillion-dollar ocean biofuel initiative. This landmark collaboration underscores a big step forward in both companies’ shared sustainability ambitions.

Scan Global Logistics has signed a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Better Energy to offtake renewable energy in Sweden. Through the PPA, the global freight forwarder contributes to establishing a new solar park near Studsvik and purchases renewable energy for its Swedish offices and warehouses.

Starting with the conclusion, ocean freight levels are surging in a period that is usually considered a slack season, especially on the Far East Westbound trade from Asia to Europe, which is widely considered the global blockbuster trade.

Many companies aim to reduce their CO2 emissions to achieve their climate targets. At the beginning of the year, our long-standing customer, Danish Pamatek, purchased ocean biofuel for all their expected ocean freight from China in 2024 upfront. Their decision is a commitment to reducing their ocean freight emissions by 100%, and in doing so, they will also benefit from avoiding the EU ETS surcharge on ocean freight. Their commitment confirms that CO2-neutral transport is becoming increasingly crucial for competition.
