Scan Global Logistics’ Aid & Development teams in Billund and Copenhagen have been extensively involved with the effort to get emergency relief supplies to thousands of people affected by last week's destructive earthquake in Haiti.
After the 7,0 magnitude earthquake aid has been flown into airports including Port au Prince, Haiti and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on chartered aircrafts including IL-76, B777 and B747 freighters.
One of the major challenges is that Port au Prince Airport is so congested that flights are being diverted into smaller airports in the Dominican Republic. This means that the distribution of the aid is further being complicated.

The General Secretary of Danish Red Cross, Mr. Anders Ladekarl, recently visited Port au Prince. He compared the disaster with two disaster and war zones.
"The devastation in Banda Aceh after the tsunami was just as violent. But this looked more like an impact after a nuclear bomb. It reminded me of the pictures I have of Berlin after World War II." He said after returning to Denmark.
